FALL

Fall

by Jerome Guzy

Mixed media on paper. 12″ x 12″
A russet maple leaf’s silhouette seemingly floats beside a black organic shape, balancing the composition. This piece explores our perceptions of the natural world through minimalist, modernist and color science techniques. In this work Guzy reveals his interest in the contributions of modernist painters like Arthur Dove, who participated in “The Younger American Painters”, exhibit in NYC at the Gallery of Alfred Stieglitz, in 1910. This exhibit brought together a unique group of artists who were using color science as new way of portraying nature. That exploration which is evident in this work continues to this day.
